Memphis Grizzlies’ superstar Ja Morant could be facing big consequences after being accused of hitting an underage boy and pointing a gun at him.
Morant, who is currently leading the Memphis Grizzlies to the 2nd seed in the Western Conference, has been involved in some serious incidents in recent times.
“… In a string of incidents dating from last summer, Morant and people close to him have been accused of threatening and even violent behavior, according to previously unreported police records,” Molly Helnsley-Clansey of The Washington Post writes.
This is already something serious for the former MIP Award winner, who has been accused of beating up a 17-year-old boy and even pointing a gun at him. The teenager reportedly told police that Morant hit him 12 or 13 times during a pickup basketball game at the Grizzlies’ player’s house.
“The teenager told detectives from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office that, after the fight, Morant went into his house and re-emerged with a gun visible in the waistband of his pants and his hand on the weapon, according to police interviews obtained by The Washington Post, which have not previously been reported.”
This new incident comes weeks after people close to the former No. 2 overall pick was accused by some Indiana Pacers staffers of pointing a gun at them too. This is nothing good for Morant, who has a bright present and future in the NBA, which he can’t afford to lose.
Ja Morant Has Been Called Out For Acting Tough In The NBA
These antics of Ja and his friends have become a topic of discussion around the league, and many people have tried to make him come to his sense and avoid getting in trouble and losing everything he’s fought hard for.
Shannon Sharpe called him out for acting ‘hood’ in the league when he should just be focused on being a basketball player. Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson offered advice to him, telling him to be careful with the people he surrounds himself with.
It seems like people around the league are learning some stuff about Morant that could affect him and his career. The player knows he’s in a privileged position with his big contract and is one of the young faces in the league, but justice won’t care about that if Ja gets involved in something really serious that he can’t get away with.
