The Los Angeles Clippers played the Sacramento Kings on Friday night and the game was exciting for more reasons than just one. Russell Westbrook made his debut for the other team in LA, and he was extremely productive even though the Clippers fell to a loss.

Paul George had gone to bat for Russell Westbrook after he was bought out, pushing for the team to acquire him. George has played with Westbrook in the past, and he is seemingly not surprised by the seamless fit so far.

Paul George spoke to reporters after the game, during which Russell Westbrook managed 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 14 assists as a starter.

(starts at 00:20 minutes)

“Yeah, it’s about what I imagined. The reason why I was high on Russ because of what he bring. And we saw flashes of it tonight.”

Paul George wasn’t too amped considering that the game ended in a loss in double overtime. But he and the Clippers will be really happy with the way Westbrook was able to move the ball around on his debut, which is what they will have been hoping to see from him. And Russell seems glad to be on his new team too.

Russell Westbrook Appreciated The Clippers’ Roster After His First Game

For a player like Russell Westbrook, having shooters around him is what he needs to play to his best. And the Clippers are loaded with three-point shooting, something Westbrook didn’t get to enjoy during his time with the Lakers. And he remembers that, mentioning it after he got 14 assists in his first game, throwing some shade at his old team in the process.

“It’s great as a point guard to be able to have many options and it’s hard for the defense because they don’t know what to take away.”

The fit of the Clippers for Westbrook was expected to be better because of this reason. The team can create an environment that will allow Westbrook to thrive. It is now up to the man himself to play efficient offense and stay committed on the other end of the floor. He committed 7 turnovers against the Kings, something they need to cut out. Things are looking good at the start of it all so far though.
