The conversation around Victor Wembanyama has been about how he will destroy the league. The expected No. 1 overall pick is a freak of nature, but he is still young, and expecting him to dominate immediately might be a bit hasty.

Victor Wembanyama is playing on Metropolitans 92 in France for the top-tier professional league in the country. While it’s not one of the best in the world, it has some solid talents, and even Wembanyama struggles occasionally. A clip of him being put on a poster went viral recently.

An opposing big man methodically backed Wembanyama down with strength in the post before jamming it over him. And NBA fans had a lot to say about the lack of power Victor Wembanyama showed in the play.

“Giannis will destroy him.”

Just Imagine what Giannis and Embiid going to do to him!!! God Bless America https://t.co/bciPefy1Jz

Kendrick Perkins was of a similar mind, saying, “Just Imagine what Giannis and Embiid going to do to him!!! God Bless America.”

“He basically gotta be a small forward in the NBA. Cause that right there is nasty,” said another fan, noting potential positional struggles for Wembanyama.

Good thing for Wemby the last time a center backed someone down in the post with 5 dribbles in the NBA was in 2018 https://t.co/IL0dwHLUDh

“Good thing for Wemby the last time a center backed someone down in the post with 5 dribbles in the NBA was in 2018,” noted a fan wanting people to calm down with their overreactions a little.

This is PRECISELY WHY he doesn’t want to play the 5. No disrespect whatsoever, but that frame against an Embiid or Jokic and… I don’t even want to see it, TBH. Leave him in the backcourt. https://t.co/oKuWp3aFN4

There were some fair points made across the board. Victor Wembanyama will get stronger as he grows older, and everyone gets dunked on. So this might be something of an overreaction at the minute. However, it’s a good reminder for everyone that just because he is such a beast, doesn’t mean Wembanyama is guaranteed to succeed.

Will Victor Wembanyama Succeed In The NBA?

There is never any guarantee of a player reaching superstardom in the NBA no matter how good they are. But being 4 inches taller than Shaquille O’Neal at 19 and being called an alien on the court by LeBron James are as promising as any signs can get.

Victor Wembanyama is a generational prospect for his raw abilities, but more than that, he also values playing basketball the right way. His health will be a question mark till it isn’t, but he has what it takes to be the next big thing.
