Being a basketball player in the biggest basketball league in the world comes with its benefits, and having a huge fan following is one of them. To that point, if a certain player is a superstar, that fan following can be in the millions. For the majority of his career, Russell Westbrook was one of the league’s biggest superstars.
Sure, he is not the player he once was, but for the true fans of Russell Westbrook, he will always remain a superstar. With that said, it’s only natural for his personal fanbase to support him in every career decision.
When it was announced that Westbrook is now joining the Los Angeles Clippers, most of his fans were incredibly happy and claimed that his addition will help the Clippers win the NBA Championship.
In a press conference, Westbrook was asked about his thoughts on the personal fanbase he has amassed over the years, and the 34-year-old cheerfully answered that question.
I asked Russell Westbrook about his own personal fanbase.
Russ: “It’s a blessing, man… To have people that support you across the world, I’m truly grateful and thankful for those people. I try my best to go out and compete and be loyal to them as they’re loyal to me.” pic.twitter.com/o6fdfcHgpy

“It’s a blessing, man. You know, at least for me. I have been in different places and in so many different ups and downs in my career. To have people that support you across the world, I’m truly grateful and thankful for those people. I try my best to go out and compete and be loyal to them as they’re loyal to me.”
Westbrook expressed his happiness about having fans from all around the globe support him during his ups and downs. But that doesn’t mean he is shy about taking a shot at specific groups of fans.
Russell Westbrook Recently Took A Subtle Shot At Lakers Fans
In the same press conference where Russell Westbrook shared his thoughts on having a loyal fanbase, Russ also took a subtle shot at Lakers fans.
Westbrook talked about finally being happy to have fans who support him. While Russ was only praising the Clippers fans, the message came across as if he had taken a subtle shot at the Purple and Gold fans.
If that was the attention of Westbrook, it’s not a huge deal. After all, he didn’t receive the best of treatments from the Lakers fans during his time with the organization.
