Victor Wembanyama was displeased after discovering that FIBA had published a fake interview of the surging phenom.
The French star regarded as the NBA’s future slammed the association with a crisp, but impactful NSFW expletive. The FIBA published a story on February 18 talking about Wembanyama suiting up for France’s national team and sharing his two cents on the importance of the upcoming European qualifiers for the FIBA World Cup. Except, the interview was reportedly fake.
Taking to Instagram, Wembanyama pulled no punches as he expressed his disbelief at the association.

“4 days ago FIBA published a fake interview of me”
“Wtf???”
While FIBA has since apologized, safe to say, the move hasn’t really gone down well with the prodigy.
FIBA Issues Apology, Removes The Fake Article Immediately
On their part, FIBA was quick to react saying that the article was taken down soon after Wembanyama’s complaint, and apologized to the player as well.
The association released a statement saying the governing body couldn’t confirm the accuracy of the story written by a “long-time French contributor.”
“An article featuring a supposed interview with Victor Wembanyama was recently published on the FIBA website. After doubts were expressed by the player regarding the interview, which was provided to FIBA by a long-time French contributor, the veracity of the interview could not be confirmed,”
“FIBA has without delay removed the article and all related social media posts, and has immediately terminated the relationship with the freelance reporter. FIBA apologizes to Victor and the French team and wishes them all the best in the forthcoming #FIBAWC qualifiers.”
Wembanyama has been the talk of the league ever since he burst on the scene displaying some impeccable athleticism, and his stellar display of hooping skills.
Earlier, Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson lauded the young star saying he would have a LeBron James-type of impact when he plays in the NBA.
The expectations from Wembanyama are sky-high and only time will tell if he can deliver. But for now, there’s some mending to be done between the phenom and FIBA.
