For any basketball player, there is no greater honor than getting into the Hall of Fame. Only the best of the best make it in and there were some big names included among the finalists for the Hall of Fame class of 2023.

Dirk Nowitzki, Dwyane Wade, Pau Gasol, and Tony Parker were the headline acts, with Wade delivering an emotional message after finding out he is a finalist. All four individuals made their mark on the game and they all had one thing in common, they won an NBA title at some point in their careers.

Now, two Hall-of-Famers in Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce have come out and stated that players who haven’t won a title, shouldn’t be eligible for the Hall.

Kevin Garnett: “Being in the Hall of Fame and then being here with the championship it’s solidified. That’s 360 to me. Not to say or disown anybody else in here, but I feel they go together. These are arguably the best players to ever touch the rock, and to be in here, and to be considered one of them, with the championship, is icing on cake.”

Paul Pierce: “I’m not even sure I want to be in the Hall of Fame without one of these. We’re talking about the best of the best, in accomplishment, the highest accomplishment you can accomplish as a team. Like I feel that this should be the entry. You can’t come here without one of these. That’s just my opinion.”

Kevin Garnett: “Because when you talk about the best, the best have won it, at least one time.”

While you get their point of view, it would be quite harsh to not have someone in the Hall of Fame because they didn’t win a title. This would mean the likes of Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson, John Stockton, and Karl Malone shouldn’t be there, which is just not right.

At the end of the day, it is a team game and no matter how great a player is, he will ultimately come up short if his supporting cast isn’t good enough. Garnett should know that better than most, having spent years carrying mediocre teams in Minnesota. It was only when he formed the Big 3 in Boston with Pierce and Ray Allen, that he finally got his hands on that title.

Kevin Garnett Has Kyrie Irving And Luka Doncic As The Best Duo In The West

Two individuals playing today who are certainly going to make the Hall of Fame at some point are Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic. They have formed quite the fearsome duo in Dallas and Garnett is of the opinion that they are the best duo in the Western Conference.

This opinion is not as controversial as the Hall of Fame one, as you can definitely make an argument for them being the best duo in the West. Whether that will be enough to win a championship, remains to be seen.
