Load management has been the talk of the town recently when it comes to the NBA, with everyone having something to say about it. Stars seem to be sitting out of games more than ever before, and it is a cause for concern for the league.
We have had Kyrie Irving come out and say the term ‘load management’ has dehumanized NBA players, while on the flip side, Anthony Edwards ripped his fellow NBA stars for sitting out so often.
With the All-Star game being held in Utah, the NBA invited Jazz legend Karl Malone to join in on the activities, and the Hall-of-Famer was asked about the load management in today’s game.
via NBA:
“Eh, times have changed,” Malone said to NBA.com Friday. “But you would have had to kill me for me not to play. Somebody would have had to hit me in the head to get me to sit out a game.”
Whatever you may think of Malone’s questionable character, there is no denying the fact that he tried his best to be out there on the court every single night. His NBA career lasted 19 seasons, and in 17 of those, Malone played at least 80 games. The exceptions were the 1998-99 season, which only had 50 games (he played in 49), and his last season, where a knee injury forced him to miss a big chunk of the campaign.
Karl Malone Was On A Mission During The All-Star Weekend
It was touched on a bit earlier, but Malone isn’t exactly the most likable person around. He was one of the dirtiest players in the NBA back in the day, and off the court, he had a baby with a 13-year-old girl, a scandal that not many seem to know of. Bomani Jones ripped the NBA for including Malone in the All-Star activities for the same, and a lot of people would agree that he shouldn’t have been there.
Whatever the case, he was present and had revealed earlier that he had a goal in mind for the weekend. Malone wants to help out retired players who have financial difficulties, and while he can’t execute the plan, he wants to set things in motion. We’ll soon find out if he was successful in this mission.
