The Western Conference is flooded with good teams in the 2022-23 NBA season. There are several teams that have a realistic chance of winning the 2023 NBA Championship, and the Phoenix Suns are certainly among them.
While the Suns already had the trio of Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton, they recently added Kevin Durant to that mix. Although Kevin Durant cost the Phoenix Suns a hefty fee, he is still one of the best players in the league, albeit turning 34 years old a few months ago.
The new owner of the Phoenix Suns, Mat Ishbia, even labeled Kevin Durant as the best player in the world. Ishbia also mentioned that he had no doubts about giving up a lot of assets to acquire the 2x NBA champion.
Mat Ishbia’s Goal For Phoenix Suns
Mat Ishbia recently acquired the Phoenix Suns, and usually, new owners like to take their time with the franchise. However, the youngest owner in the history of the league wants to do things a little differently.
In a recent interview, Ishbia shared his goal for the Phoenix Suns, and it’s to immediately win an NBA Championship with the core of Durant, Paul, Booker, and Ayton.
Via Boardroom:
“Jump right in. We have a great team, can we make it better? Can we improve? I’m not the kind of guy who sits there and says, ‘Let’s plan so in six years we have a chance to win a championship.’”
He added, “People talk about a lot of trades, what if scenarios, and getting a star. But to not only talk about it, but work hard on it, execute, get it going, and make it happen? It’s pretty cool.”
Ishbia finds it ‘cool’ to try and help the Suns become the champions of the NBA for the first time in the history of the franchise.
The 43-year-old has all the right tools to win it all this season. Heading into the NBA All-Star break, the Suns have a record of 32-28 and are the 5th seed in the Western Conference. Once they return from the break, it will be exciting to see where the team finishes on the table.
