The NBA world saw a major shakeup with Brooklyn Nets stars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant traded to the Dallas Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns respectively.

That leaves an under-fire Ben Simmons in the Nets. And the very fact that he would now be looked at as the prime leader had fans roasting the guard.

Simmons has been struggling. At the time of writing, he has been averaging 7.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists. This is further compounded by the fact that the two franchise superstars have been traded before the deadline.

When he joined the Nets, Simmons had a clear message for the rest of the league:

“I think It’s going to be scary. Having those guys run a long side me is multiple different weapons on the floor, and I think at the pace we want to play at it’s going to be unreal.

And now, fans used the very same line to roast Simmons amid what has been an offseason that’s witnessed some blockbuster moves.

NBA Fans Take Digs At Struggling Ben Simmons After Kyrie Irving And Kevin Durant’s Departure

Kyrie Irving’s trade saw the Nets receive Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, two second-round picks, and an unprotected 2029 first-round pick. For Durant, they landed Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, Cameron Johnson, and four first-round picks.

Simmons will be suiting up with an all-new Nets outfit, and that had some of the fans roasting him even before he’s had a chance to get a feel of working with the new names.

At this stage, it remains to be seen if the Nets indeed make the playoffs. They are placed fifth in the East with a 32-22 record.

A string of wins will indeed push the Nets into the postseason, but with the new team needing to mesh and Simmons’ own form coming in as a concern, it remains to be seen if the Nets can go the distance.
