Kyrie Irving is the man of the hour in the NBA and not precisely for the best reasons. The Brooklyn Nets disgruntled star surprised everybody with a trade request that not even the most pessimistic fan could see coming.
Following a tumultuous start to the season, where he was suspended, Kyrie returned to the Nets and started balling, even getting selected as an All-Star Game starter. However, none of that could change his mind and he requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets this Friday.
Many fans were shocked by this and one of Kyrie’s biggest detractors in the league saw an opportunity to absolutely blast the player. This was completely unexpected and Stephen A. Smith shared his feelings about this move, which didn’t please him at all.
Stephen A. Smith Goes Off On Kyrie Irving For His Trade Request
Even though Smith is a diehard New York Knicks fan, he takes special offense when Kyrie does or says something wrong. This time wasn’t an exception and during the most recent edition of NBA Today, Smith went off on Kyrie for this decision, calling it ‘idiotic.’
"Idiotic… He cannot be trusted. He just reminded the basketball world of that."

“Idiotic, here’s a guy in Kyrie Irving that for the last three years, he’s gotten most of his money but missed more than 50% of his games. (He) now enters the last year after this offseason… Obviously, the situation that he got himself into early in this year was unfortunate, but he resurrected himself from that, laying outstanding basketball and reminding everybody what an absolute, flat-out superstar basketball player he is,” Smith claimed.
However, the veteran analyst added that Kyrie showed once again why he ‘can’t be trusted’. He did give Kyrie his flowers as a basketball player, but other than that, he simply showed his disappointment with this decision.
Now, Kyrie appears to be on his way to Los Angeles, as the Lakers are mentioned as the biggest candidates to trade for him. However, other squads like the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns are keeping tabs on this situation, trying to lure Irving away from Brooklyn and adding a piece that can take them to the next level, as long as he stays focused.
