Unfortunately in sports, there are times when we see arguments or disagreements during a game. Sometimes they can happen among fans, but this time, we saw a prominent NBA analyst and former NFL tight end exchange words with Grizzlies players and even a family member of a player.
Recently, we saw Shannon Sharpe get into an altercation with Ja Morant’s father, Tee Morant. This incident started with Grizzlies players, including Ja Morant and Dillon Brooks talking trash to him. Sharpe and the elder Morant notably exchanged words before Sharpe was escorted away.
When speaking with Dave McMenamin, Shannon Sharpe explained the situation with the Memphis Grizzlies. He claimed that “it started with Dillon Brooks”, adding that the Grizzlies players and Tee Morant “didn’t want this smoke”.
Shannon Sharpe spent halftime in the tunnel with security before returning to his seat for the third quarter. He granted ESPN a brief interview explaining what happened with the Grizzlies on his way to his seat: pic.twitter.com/XZNw6sQhEG

They didn’t want this smoke, Dave. They do all that talking and jockeying and I ain’t about that jockeying. It started with Dillon Brooks. I said he was too small to guard LeBron. he said “F***” me. I said, “F***” you back. He started to come at me and I said, “You don’t want these problems.” And then Ja came out of nowhere talking. He definitely didn’t want these problems. Then the dad came and he obviously didn’t want no problems. But I wanted anything they had. Don’t let these fools fool you now.
The incident ended up being settled peacefully, and luckily it didn’t escalate into any physicality. Hopefully, we see the game finish without any further incidents of this type. When hurtful words are exchanged things can get heated, and thankfully, this didn’t become anything beyond an exchange of words before the parties were separated.
Shannon Sharpe Has Criticized Ja Morant In The Past
Previously, Shannon Sharpe criticized Ja Morant due to him stating that he wasn’t worried about anyone in the Western Conference. He pointed out that Morant was 13 when the Grizzlies last made a Conference Finals and dismissed the team as “not good” and “not like that”.
“The last time the Grizz made a Western Conference Finals, Ja Morant was 13. Did I miss something… Bruh, y’all not good. Y’all not like that. Y’all ain’t got Shaq, don’t got Kobe, you don’t got a Tim Duncan.”
It remains to be seen whether Ja Morant will be able to prove Shannon Sharpe wrong in the future. The Grizzlies are the 2nd seed in the Western Conference, and it is clear that they are having some degree of success.
Perhaps we will see Ja Morant address his relationship with Shannon Sharpe in the future. Sharpe is clearly not a fan of Morant, but perhaps the two can work out their differences at some point.
