The FIFA World Cup final is finally upon us, and it promises to be one for the ages. We’ll see Lionel Messi, arguably the greatest player of all time, and Argentina take on Kylian Mbappe and France, who are looking to become the first team since Brazil in 1962 to win back-to-back World Cups.
Once the U.S. got knocked out of the World Cup in the Round of 16 by the Netherlands, which led to Memphis Depay trolling Charles Barkley, there has probably been a drop in interest in the tournament, but a lot of eyes will be on the final on Sunday. What makes the final so special is that there is no clear favorite, and you can really see it go either way. LeBron James was asked to make his pick after the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Denver Nuggets, but he didn’t want to do it.

“Iām not gonna choose⦠I just want to see a great match like the rest of the world, besides whoever is rooting for France or Argentina. We will see, itās going to be a great one, and look forward to seeing two of the greatest to ever play that sport go at it, so itāll be fun.”
Finals do tend to be cagey affairs, but we do hope these two teams go at it with the biggest prize in the sport on the line. LeBron has taken more interest in soccer in recent years as he owns a stake in English club Liverpool FC, and he was in Paris earlier this year to support the team in the Champions League final.
LeBron James Paid Tribute To Grant Wahl Who Passed Away At The World Cup
Among all the festivities and great moments at the World Cup, we unfortunately also got the sad news of the passing of American journalist Grant Wahl. He was the most prominent soccer journalist in the country but, earlier on in his career, was big into college basketball.
It was, in fact, Wahl who wrote that famous cover story on LeBron being the “Chosen One” for Sports Illustrated back in 2002, and James paid tribute to Wahl on his passing. Wahl had also written SI’s first cover story on Kevin Durant, and his passing is a big blow to the sports community.
