Michael Jordan is the greatest player of all time for most, the number of incredible achievements he has in his life is unmatched. The GOAT has endless highlights, including the number of unbelievably clutch shots he made when the games mattered the most. Jordan was the main cog behind the Chicago Bulls dynasty in the 90s, but even before he won, people knew how special he was.

Michael Jordan joined a Chicago Bulls team that wasn’t very good. His first couple of years weren’t remarkable, although the signs of greatness were already there. And once Head Coach Doug Collins got to the Bulls, that began the era of Jordan being recognized as a bonafide superstar. MJ’s first incredible moment in the playoffs came against the Cleveland Cavaliers when he hit what many refer to as ‘The Shot’ over Craig Ehlo. And the play call from Collins came with a hilarious explanation.

Doug Collins’ Epic Breakdown Of Michael Jordan’s Clutch Play Against The Cleveland Cavaliers

Doug Collins was the first Head Coach to unleash the full potential of Michael Jordan. And while he wasn’t around to reap the benefits of all the championships that came eventually, Collins was integral in shaping MJ into the superstar that he became. And his faith in the GOAT was evident right from those days, his quote about deciding the plays against the Cavaliers in an impressive series win will never be forgotten.

“That was, get the ball to Michael, everybody get the f**k out of the way. Just go to the basket.”

As far as one-liners go, this was a pretty great one from Collins, and it’s safe to say that his faith in MJ paid off in a big way. The Bulls would advance all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1989, although that is also where their massive rivalry with the Detroit Pistons would begin.

Michael Jordan was able to achieve everything that he did because he believed he was the main man. Doug Collins gave him the license to play like that and to believe it, and it eventually led to a lot of success for the Bulls. MJ had to learn to play within the offense once Phil Jackson arrived, and that was what changed the game for them, but moments like these are a reminder of just how much those around him believed in His Airness.
