Anthony Davis Takes Responsibility For Lakers’ Recent Losses

Anthony Davis took responsibility for the Lakers' latest losses to the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics.

When the Los Angeles Lakers got off to a 2-10 start in the 2022-23 NBA season, you would be hard-pressed to find many people who had any hope that the team would be able to turn things around. They just looked like a disjointed bunch, and nothing was going right until a certain someone decided it was time to go off.

That someone, of course, was Anthony Davis, who has been a man on a mission in recent weeks as he has terrorized opposing defenses. Teams have, for the most part, had no answer for AD, who has been playing at a supremely high level, but the last couple of games have seen Davis come up short in clutch situations.

A few nights back, he missed a free throw against the Philadelphia 76ers with 3.1 seconds remaining, which would have given them the lead, and they eventually lost in overtime. Then last night, Davis had the chance to almost certainly seal the win over the Boston Celtics as he went to the line with the Lakers leading 110-108 with 28 seconds remaining. He missed both of them, and Jayson Tatum scored on the other end to take the game to overtime. The Lakers then once again lost in the extra period, and Davis took responsibility for both defeats after the game.

Anthony Davis, who had 37 points, 12 boards and 3 assists, said it’s hard for him to think about anything other than the missed free throws in the final minute: “I know there’s more to it … but for me, you go back to the free throws (at Philly and vs. Boston) … it’s on me.”

Anthony Davis, who had 37 points, 12 boards and 3 assists, said it’s hard for him to think about anything other than the missed free throws in the final minute: “I know there’s more to it … but for me, you go back to the free throws (at Philly and vs. Boston) … it’s on me.”

AD missing those free throws wasn’t by any means the only reason they lost those games, as there were a lot of things the team could have done better to get the win. It is understandable that he doesn’t see it that way, but it definitely is not all on him.

Shaquille O’Neal Has A Lot Of Praise For Anthony Davis

Shaquille O’Neal had been quite disappointed in the way AD had played the last two seasons and had made it known that he expected better. With Davis now playing the way he is, Shaq was full of praise for him.

He now wants Davis to demand the ball as their no. 1 option, as he believes that LeBron James would be more than willing to pass him the ball. Their offense does have to run through Davis if they are to make any kind of noise this season, and James agrees with that too.
