Anthony Davis’ play this season has vaulted him back into the conversation of the best player in the NBA. The level that AD has played at this season is what many were expecting from him after winning the title in 2020 but injuries meant he never quite reached those heights before this recent stretch.

Over his last 12 games for the Los Angeles Lakers, AD is averaging 32.0 PPG, 14.2 RPG, 2.8 APG, 2.4 BPG, and 1.3 SPG, for a truly remarkable run, especially when you consider he only played the first quarter in one of those games. He hasn’t exactly been facing some nobodies in this run either, as he has dominated some big names like Giannis Antetokounmpo as well. With how dominant he has been, a question posted by Hoop Central for NBA Twitter drew a lot of interest.

Fans were quite split when it came to this as they debated who should get cut from this group.

“Right now maybe jokic because of how AD is playing but if he doesn’t keep it up AD”

“Embiid And here is why, KD top 15 alltime, AD right now playing the best, Giannis and Jokic the last two MVPs”

“Kevin “I need Steph Curry to win a ring” Durant”

“Embid I got AD what I need you for”

“idc I’m cutting jokic I like my bigs to be able to be play great defense”

“Adios to the Run & Dunk King”

“This is about as easy at it gets. AD.”

“Jokic is the only one here who can’t play defense sooooo Jokic easily”

“Hard decision but Embiid”

“jokic or kd idk i feel like the rest of them playing phenomenal”

“It’s gotta be Embiid. This team has plenty of scoring options so to me it comes down to who can contribute more on defense and Giannis and AD are better defensively”

“Jokic is the only answer”

“Embiid easy. The rest of em are either MVPs or champions some even both”

“AD. No question. Only one who hasn’t shown yet that he is a playoff-level no. 1 franchise player.”

“Strictly going by this season alone, Jokic.”

“So easily AD. He has a good month in the last 2 years.”

“I gotta cut Joel … because AD been going Nuts ‍♂️ ‍♂️.. you can’t cut KD”

“I’d say who I’d cut but I’m afraid he’ll freak out & start shoving ladders over”

“ill cut @JoelEmbiid. He is not a winner. More of a diva really”

“AD is getting the boot”

If this question had been posed last season, there is no doubt that AD would have been the one everyone would choose from here, and it speaks to how good he has been in recent times. If he keeps this up, then you do wonder just how far he can take the Lakers.

Are The Lakers Too Dependant On Anthony Davis?

The conversation regarding AD has shifted from how the Lakers can’t rely on him to just how reliant they have been on him in recent times. Stephen A. Smith called out the team for their overreliance on AD, as he says they have no defense without him.

Their defense definitely struggles a lot when he’s not playing, as LeBron James can’t really play defense at a high level anymore. The Lakers season is basically now hinging entirely on AD’s health, and that isn’t ideal considering his injury history. On the odd chance that he stays healthy, though, the Lakers will be a force to be reckoned with.
