The NBA has played host to some intense rivalries throughout the league’s history. The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics have enjoyed intense rivalries in multiple eras. Whenever a team wins too much, they are bound to make some other players angry, and perhaps no team in the modern game was as dominant as the Chicago Bulls during the 90s.

The Bulls had some incredible rivalries, their beef with Isiah Thomas and the Bad Boy Pistons is still alive to this day. Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and the rest of the team were really good on the court, but they also indulged in some serious trash talk. And after the Pistons had waned, they had a beef with the New York Knicks led by Pat Riley. During this time, Scottie Pippen and Larry Johnson had an exchange that recently went viral.

Larry Johnson: “He needs to shut his mouth now. All he needs to do is to give the ball to 23. That’s his best play right there. ‘Here, 23. Bail us out.’ He needs to shut his mouth. He’s a bum. He shut himself down. Mike gives all them boys guts over there. If it wasn’t for Mike … “

Scottie Pippen: â€œ[Johnson is] garbage. He might as well have been sitting over there with Spike Lee. All he’s doing is being a cheerleader for them. He’s trying to get the monkey off his back. They spent all that money to have him come in there. All he’s done in the league is make money.”

Johnson and Pippen didn’t hold back when talking about one another. In the modern era, players are a lot more respectful and friendly, although there is still beef, like the one currently budding between the Pelicans and the Suns. And NBA fans want more of this.

NBA Fans Want To See More Feuds As Intense As The One Between Scottie Pippen And Larry Johnson

Sometimes, having an intense dislike for an opponent in sports makes for a really fun viewing for the audience. And after this tweet about Pippen and Johnson’s disagreements went viral, lots of fans addressed how they want to see more things like this in the modern NBA.

“NBA needs more beef like this.”

“Pippen’s comeback was weak but the mentality being what it was back then they must’ve been like that’ll get em.”

“Pro sports needs more hate. All this friend sh*t has to stop.”

“They take it personal!”

“Players today need to act like this more.”

“Basketball is the best when players wanna destroy each other.”

“Man, the league is so soft now.”

“It’ll never be a league where they actually dislike each other those golden days are over.”

“Everyone is too friendly with each other nowadays.”

“Bring hate like this back.”

It’s safe to say that fans want to see some real depth of feeling and animosity within their favorite teams. The NBA has seen a lot of its stars come together for player power, but it has come at the expense of some entertaining rivalries. Hopefully, we’ll get some of that with the newer generation of stars.
