Lakers News: Lonnie Walker IV Doesn’t Care Too Much About The Trade Rumors

Walker has his work cut out. "I’m not a GM. I play ball...I come here, I do my work, I go home," he said.

Lonnie Walker IV doesn’t bother much about the trade rumors constantly buzzing around the Los Angeles Lakers.

In what has been a tumultuous season for the Lakers, Walker has been one of the bright spots as he emerged as one of the more reliable offensive options, and the guard isn’t too keen about following trade rumors surrounding the side.

According to Silver Screen And Roll, Walker opined that he would do what he’s asked to and not focus on the noise outside. Almost every player on the roster has been part of trade theories and speculations, but the 23-year-old was not having any of it.

“You have to realize you can only control what you can control. Everything else is in God’s hands. I’m a ballplayer. I’m not here to write about the news. I’m not a GM. I play ball…I come here, I do my work, I go home, I come back later on tonight and get some more shots. I’m just focused on basketball so anything that’s outside of basketball and whatnot, that’s outside of my responsibility and out of my control nor should I let it reflect or deflect onto myself. I try my best to not read into all of it and get into all of that extra stuff because that’s unnecessary energy you put on yourself.”

There’s no doubt that the side will be featured in trade discussions irrespective of how the team fares. The chatter started well ahead of the offseason, and perhaps the rest of the side can take a leaf out of Walker’s book on dealing with a rather draining topic.

Lonnie Walker IV Has Emerged As A Solid Scoring Option For The Lakers

Walker has emerged as the Lakers’ third scoring option behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

With the two big names averaging 24.9 and 24.3 points respectively, the Pennsylvania lad is placed third with 16.5 points. Russell Westbrook is fourth with 16.3 points.

He also boasts of a better three-point shooting percentage. His 35.7% pips James (23.9%), Davis (25%), and Westbrook (34%). His ability to spot big in key situations makes him one of the more important players on the roster that’s deprived of shooting.

The Lakers will hope for Walker to continue in the same vein when they host the Detroit Pistons next at home.
