As a 6x All-Star, 6x All-NBA player, 2x MVP, and 1x Champion, Giannis Antetokounmpo is leading most NBA leaderboards right now thanks to his impressive show of dominance over the past two years.

And while most crowned him as the league’s best player years ago, Giannis himself isn’t nearly as quick to award himself that title — at least, not anymore.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Gives The Nod To Steph Curry As The Best Player In The World

In fact, during a chat with the media this weekend, the Greek freak actually called Steph Curry the game’s best player.

“Do I believe I am the best player in the world? No. I think the best player in the world is the person that is the last one standing. It’s the person who takes his team to the finish line and helps them win the game. Two years ago when we did that, yeah. When I was sleeping in my bed I said ‘ohhh yeah, maybe I am the best player in the world.’ But now, no. In my opinion, the way I view it, the winner is the best. The guy that wins is the best… I believe the best player in the world is Steph Curry until the next player.”

Giannis’ view on this matter is pretty simple. The best player is the best winner. And since Curry was the best player on the best team last season, he wears the crown until another team (with another star player) takes them down.

For such a gifted player, Giannis is extremely humble and has no problem recognizing the success of others. When Steph won Finals MVP, for example, Giannis was among the first to speak up and congratulate the star point guard.

“Congrats to them,” Antetokounmpo said. “They worked extremely hard, played through adversity. They’ve been together ten years, they’ve had a great decade, it’s unbelievable. And Steph Curry, there’s no better person in the world right now that deserves the trophy more than him. He played his butt off and I’m happy for them.”

It’s hard to argue with Giannis’ logic. While Antetokounmpo may look like the more imposing player, Curry was ultimately the one that found the most success last season ad he deserves respect for what he was able to do.

If Giannis feels like taking back the throne, he’ll have to first re-take his place atop the food chain and beat the Warriors when it matters.
