Kareem Abdul-Jabbar On Showtime Lakers’ Reunion In Maui: “First Time We Were All Together For A Practice Since I Retired In 1989”

The Los Angeles Lakers are considered one of the best franchises in the NBA. The iconic franchise has been home to many NBA legends, with LeBron James being the most recent one.

But today, for a change, our focus is not on the current Lakers. Instead, let’s take a trip down memory lane to the ‘Showtime Lakers.’ Back in the 1970s, the Purple and Gold, just like the rest of the league, weren’t having a good time.

However, Jerry Buss saved the franchise by purchasing it and completely changing the culture. Under Dr. Buss’ ownership, the Lakers won five NBA Championships in the 1980s.

Obviously, the organization had some pretty amazing players on the roster. The biggest star on the team was none other than NBA’s all-time scoring leader, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

His partner in crime was NBA Hall of Famer and ever-so-charming Magic Johnson. The dynamic duo, under the coaching of Pat Riley, owned the league for a decade. It was unarguably the best time to be a fan of the Lakers.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Posts Pictures Of ‘Showtime Lakers’ Reunion

Kareem is one of the best players of all time, but he doesn’t have the flashy and outgoing personality that Magic has. So it’s no surprise that he didn’t meet many of his former Lakers teammates, let alone join a practice with them.

Well, that changed recently when Abdul-Jabbar posted pictures of the Lakers reunion in Maui, where most players from the ‘Showtime Lakers’ were present.

First time we were all together for a practice since I retired in 1989…. This is how you make a memory !!

While Kareem may not have made a lot of public appearances with his former teammates, it’s obvious that he and Magic maintained a good relationship with them.

The most notable players missing from this iconic image were Mychal Thompson and Kurt Rambis. Regardless, as Kareem mentioned in his tweet, that’s how you make a memory, and we are sure the members of the 1980s Lakers will cherish this day.
