The Golden State Warriors are currently flying high, having secured the franchise’s 4th NBA championship in 8 years. But even as the celebrations have gone on, an eye has been on the future of the franchise. The core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green are aging, and the future of the team remains a bit of a question mark.
They do have some excellent young players, the likes of Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, and James Wiseman all have shown the ability to be great. But it’s Jordan Poole who emerged as a star last season, averaging nearly 19 points per game and filling in the scoring duties ably when Klay Thompson was still out.
However, Klay has since returned, and this has pushed Poole out of the spotlight a little. Adding the fact that Andrew Wiggins impressed on the biggest stages, Poole has become even more of an afterthought. And with his contract up at the end of the 2022-23 season, it’s interesting to see if he will remain with the Warriors.
Anonymous Western Conference Executive Claims Jordan Poole Is The Most Likely Of The Warriors’ Stars To Leave
There are never any guarantees that players that succeed with their teams will stay on that team, as Jalen Brunson recently proved to the Dallas Mavericks. And Sean Deveney of Heavy.com relayed the words of an NBA executive, who thinks that Jordan Poole is the likeliest out of the Warriors stars to take a similar decision.
“Poole, though, could have some [Harrison] Barnes in him,” the executive explained. “He got to show what he can do a bit when everyone was hurt and the team was bad, but he got pushed back within the team once Klay was healthy and everyone was talking about Wiggins and all. It depends on how they handle this contract.
“But if he gets the sense they do not want him, yeah, he is the one I could imagine looking elsewhere, like Barnes did. Of course, they replaced Barnes with Durant. Maybe they’ll do the same with Poole.”
Stephen Curry recently admitted that he was excited by the prospect of potentially playing with Kevin Durant and was okay with the Warriors making a move. Considering that someone like Poole would have to be included in that trade, it must have made him wonder about life outside the Warriors as well. At least for another season, though, Poole remains likely to develop in Golden State.
