This was certainly a sign of things to come. After having a quiet debut season in the NBA, Bryant saw an increase in his playtime. This prompted a massive increase in his numbers and a well-deserved All-Star game appearance. But it was the 1998-99 season where Kobe really took off.
Forming a formidable partnership with Shaquille O’Neal, the Los Angeles Lakers, who were simply a playoff team, became a contender. Bryant might have only shown flashes in his debut season, but within three years, he certainly established himself as the second-best player on a championship team.
