Kyrie Irving is one of the best point guards in the game when he’s on the court, and he is well-known for his ballhandling ability and shot creation. Even though he was a part-time player for the Brooklyn Nets last season, Irving still managed to put up 27.4 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 5.8 APG.
This summer, there has been a lot of speculation about Kyrie Irving potentially getting traded elsewhere. Though he opted into his player option earlier in the offseason, the Brooklyn Nets have not yet given him an extension. According to NBA insider Ric Bucher, Kyrie Irving wanted his new contract to “guarantee” that he wouldn’t have to play more than 60 games in a season and allow him not to play any back-to-backs.
“Joe Tsai has already shown he’s willing to play hardball with Kyrie by taking a max extension off the table almost immediately. Now, part of that may be Kyrie’ doing. I’m told he wanted his new contract to guarantee he wouldn’t have to play more than 60 games in a season and would not have to play any back the backs, which he apparently referred to as inhumane.
Recently, Kyrie Irving has denied that report via Twitter. He commented on a Twitter post featuring the report with a GIF insinuating that the report itself was “cap”, and thus not accurate.

It remains to be seen if the Brooklyn Nets and Kyrie Irving will be able to come to some agreement about a contract extension. However, that seems unlikely at this moment. There were even reports that suggested that the Nets wanted to trade Kyrie Irving in the middle of the season but were stopped by Kevin Durant.
Hopefully, we see Kyrie Irving thrive next season and play a complete season or close to a full season. There’s no denying his talent, and perhaps he’ll show the world that he is a top-tier player next year.
