The host of the ESPYS is generally tasked with roasting anyone and everyone. There is no doubt that these are jokes, and generally, we have seen many funny moments happen at the ESPYS.

In 2017, Peyton Manning was the host of the ESPYS, and he happened to roast Kevin Durant during his segment. Manning talked about the success of the U. S. Women’s Gymnastics team and joked that they were so successful that Kevin Durant told him he wanted to join them.

The most Olympic medals of any U. S. Women’s Gymnastics team ever. Our gymnastics team was so dominant, that Kevin Durant told me he wanted to play for them next year. I gotta tell you, I don’t think you’d start for that team Kevin. Russell Westbrook, what do you think?

Obviously, this is a reference to Kevin Durant joining the 73-9 Warriors in 2016 free agency. Many people believed that the Warriors would be competing for a championship even without him. However, Draymond Green has recently admitted that the Golden State Warriors needed Kevin Durant to beat LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

I don’t think the outside world gave Kevin enough credit. I think if you came in our organization, Kevin was given all the credit. The reality is, I don’t think that team wins another championship if Kevin doesn’t come. Now you may say, “You won the fourth one without Kevin”. But there’s a gap in there where teams started to figure us out… We would not have beat the Cavs coming back around without Kevin.

There is no doubt that Kevin Durant was a fantastic contributor to the Golden State Warriors during his time there. Despite that, it is clear that he doesn’t get enough credit from the outside world for his contributions.

Hopefully, we see Kevin Durant get more recognition in the future. He is an all-time great, and one of the best scorers of all time. Perhaps we will see him win more championships in the future and quiet the naysayers after all.
