The Los Angeles Lakers are not having the most ideal offseason so far. They have made some good pickups in Thomas Bryant and Lonnie Walker IV, but they need higher-quality players to have hope for contention, especially with Russell Westbrook still on the team and LeBron James entering Year 20.

Anthony Davis and his health remain the wildcard for the Lakers and him being healthy for at least 70 games of the 82-game season could help the Lakers be playoff locks, but they need a lot more depth behind these stars. They have tried getting it by going young, but some major splashes need to be made.

The Lakers are going to be in rumors to trade for Kyrie Irving until a final resolution on Irving’s situation is made public for all. However, Jeanie Buss has made a public statement saying that they are not done constructing this roster.

“We still have work to do. We’re not done. Until training camp starts, we’re not going to rest until we’re satisfied that we have the best chance for success.”

“We have to fill out a roster. So I think that Rob knows that every opportunity we can get to improve our team, he has to look at it. Those are the kind of moves that we’re going to make because we want to be back in the playoffs and contending for a title.” (h/t NBA.com)

The free agent market has dried up almost entirely outside the availability of Collin Sexton from Cleveland, but he is definitely out of the realm of affordability for the Lakers.

The Lakers will be scouting the trade market for possible deals to make themselves better. They have minimal trade assets as well, so they are mostly dependent on hoping that the situation with Kyrie Irving works out and that they can add an All-NBA caliber player like that to their team.
