On the court, Grizzlies star Ja Morant is one of the best in the business. As the leader of a young and overachieving Memphis team, he has already become one of the NBA’s premier point guards.
But Ja found himself in some trouble recently for some comments he made about Michael Jordan. In a chat with Taylor Rooks, he flexed his confidence by invoking the name of Michael Jeffrey Jordan — and has since received considerable backlash from fans.
“I wish I would’ve played in his generation, though. Just how he go about the game, that mindset he had. … I would like to play against him. … I would’ve cooked him, too,” Morant said of Jordan. “Nobody got more confidence than 12. I’m never go and say nobody gon’ beat me in one-on-one or anything.”
Hearing all the noise and criticism about his statement, Morant responded with a tweet this week that only doubled down on his words.

Morant may be young and mostly unproven, but he talks a big game. After leading the Grizzlies to the 2nd seed in the West, and to the Conference Semi-Finals, he made sure to let the world know how he felt about his squad and their capabilities.
He even flamed the defending champs shortly after they won the Finals.
“If I won a championship, I wouldn’t think about no other team or what somebody said months ago,” said Morant. “I would be celebrating the championship and be happy with my teammates. As you saw, after they won the championship, Everything was Grizzlies. Playing whoop that trick at the parade, showing it in the club, talking about Jaren, I just feel like you can say anything if you win. I lost, but Imma still be Ja at the end of the day.”
Morant has a bright future ahead of him. As a young and explosive guard who will continue getting better, there is no question that he will be a force in this league for a long time.
Best of all, he believes in himself and isn’t afraid to fight back when someone challenges his game.
