Since winning the NBA Championship in the 2019-20 season, the Los Angeles Lakers haven’t achieved much in the last two seasons. In the 2021-22 NBA season, they barely made it to the playoffs and were eliminated in the very first round at the hands of the Phoenix Suns.
Most didn’t worry about that season much since Anthony Davis and LeBron James faced many injury troubles over the season. As a result, fans expected the Lakers to make a strong comeback in the 2021-22 NBA season.
For a moment, fans believed that the Lakers had created the newest superteam in the NBA. It was due to the fact that the Purple and Gold traded for former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook. Unfortunately, that experiment failed miserably. So much so that the Lakers failed to even qualify for the NBA play-in tournament.
Now, ahead of the 2022-23 NBA season, the legendary franchise is once again linked with a superstar in Kyrie Irving and fans are already eyeing an NBA title. Well, apart from the rumors, there has been no solid news suggesting that Kyrie Irving will join the Lakers.
If anything, NBA Insider Shams Charania has recently revealed that there is no traction with the Lakers on an Irving deal. So that only further heaps on the pile of bad news for the Lakers.
Even looking at the free agency signings of the team, there aren’t any big names featured on the list yet.
Lakers free agency signings this off-season:
– Lonnie Walker
– Thomas Bryant
– Juan Toscano-Anderson
– Troy Brown Jr.
– Damian Jones

Upon seeing the names, it is obvious that the Lakers are trying to bolster their bench strength. But not many fans understood the tactic of the team and they decided to berate the Lakers for their signings so far.

These aren’t A+ signings, but they’re about how they fit into Ham’s system. Off rip, they signed defense and athleticism. I think it’s a good start.

Considering the Lakers already have a Big 3 of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook, these signings aren’t that bad, to be honest.
After all, the Lakers needed to stack up the role players and that’s what they have done so far in the free agency. Of course, their signings could have been better, but this is definitely an improvement from last season.
