NBA players are household names across the United States and in many parts of the world, especially the superstars. But despite the fame that being a part of the NBA affords them, there are a lot of people that still don’t know them. And while it’s fun to see a fan have a wholesome interaction with an NBA player, it’s sometimes even more fun to see someone not recognize a superstar and then slowly understand who they’re talking to.
The famous instance of Klay Thompson being interviewed about some scaffolding is an excellent instance of this, and Ja Morant has become the latest star to enjoy a moment like that. Morant was eating at a normal restaurant when he gave a waitress a big tip and she didn’t recognize him at first. In conversation with the young superstar, she realized who she was talking to and had a wholesome reaction.

Waitress: “Who are you though?”
Ja Morant: “Black Jesus.”
Waitress: “Who?”
Ja Morant: “Black Jesus.”
Waitress: “Nah, you some kind of professional. What you play, football, basketball?”
Ja Morant: “Basketball.”
Waitress: “What school you went to?”
Ja Morant: “I’m not from here.”
Waitress: “You’re not? Where you from?”
Ja Morant: “South Carolina.”
Waitress: “Ohh okay. So you play basketball? You going to the NBA?”
Ja Morant: “I’m already in the NBA.”
Waitress: “Who you play for?”
Ja Morant: “The Grizzlies.”
Ja’s Friend: “Your new favorite team.”
Waitress: “That’s that team that boy play, Ja…”
Ja’s Friend: “That’s him.”
Waitress: “That’s him?” *screams and laughs* You that boy? What’s your name?”
Ja Morant: “Ja Morant.”
Waitress: *Screams and runs away laughing*
Morant’s confidence is quite evident in the conversation, considering the massive deal the young superstar just signed with the Grizzlies. The reaction from the waitress is also quite precious once she realizes who she’s talking to. Interactions like these are all too rare for the biggest superstars and so it’s always fun to see one unfold in this manner.
