The Minnesota Timberwolves are in a solid place currently. They made the playoffs this year, and have two franchise cornerstones in Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Before this current era of Timberwolves basketball, though, the team once had Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Zach LaVine on the same team. That core could have potentially been great down the line as all three of them became All-Star players in this league.

Andrew Wiggins recently opened up on his Timberwolves tenure when speaking to Kameron Hay of Complex. He was asked about that Timberwolves core with Karl-Anthony Towns and Zach LaVine, and claimed that they were “really talented” but “needed some time”. Wiggins also added that he “wouldn’t change” the way things happened and pointed out that everyone from that trio is doing well currently.

Kameron Hay: You spoke a little bit about your time in Minnesota, and immediately upon winning the championship, two of your former teammates in Karl Towns and Zach Lavine shouted you out on Twitter. Do you ever look back on that time now and feel like that group didn’t get a chance to reach its full potential together before you were split up?

Andrew Wiggins: You can’t help but to think about it, those are my guys and we were all young when we came into the league. I feel like that team that we had was really talented, we just needed some time. But everything happens for a reason. Zach went to Chicago, he’s having a hell of a career, multiple All-star Games. KAT is doing his thing in Minnesota, and I’m over here, first All-Star appearance, and winning a championship. I wouldn’t change nothing, I love the story and I love the journey but I am really happy with where I am at.

Karl-Anthony Towns has also previously expressed the idea that he, Andrew Wiggins, and Zach LaVine could have been a big three if they were given time, and it’s clear that Andrew Wiggins’ opinion is similar.

At the end of the day, though, the Minnesota Timberwolves are doing fine right now, and they likely do not regret trading away Andrew Wiggins or Zach LaVine. Only time will tell how good the Timberwolves can be with their current core, and we’ll see how far they can get in the future.
