Jeff Van Gundy Compares 2022 Stephen Curry With Cavs LeBron James: “Steph Curry Has Had To Carry The Warriors Today Like LeBron James Had To Carry Those Cavs Team”

Steph Curry has been on an absolute tear in these NBA Finals for the Golden State Warriors. He has taken it to this vaunted Boston Celtics defense in a way that no one else has done in this postseason and is putting up absurd numbers at the moment. The Warriors guard is averaging 34.3 points per game on 50% shooting from the field and 49% from beyond the arc, which is just flat-out ridiculous. It has led to John Hollinger stating that Curry should win Finals MVP even if they lose the Finals, which speaks to how great he has been.

Curry was at his best in Game 4 with the Warriors being at risk of going down 3-1, as he racked up a game-high 43 points to carry the team on his back and get a much-needed victory. As Curry was going berserk in the game, Jeff Van Gundy on commentary had some high praise for him, as he compared Curry’s performance to LeBron James carrying the Cavaliers.

Jeff van Gundy: “Steph Curry has had to carry the Warriors today like LeBron James had to carry those Cavs teams.”

There is some truth to that statement, as the Warriors supporting cast just has not shown up here in the Finals. In Game 4, he outscored the rest of the starters 43-39, and that is reminiscent of how LeBron used to carry those Cavs teams in the Finals against Golden State. The King averaged 33 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game against the Warriors in the Finals, but he only came out on top once in 2016.

That win in 2016 was thanks to an unbelievable comeback from down 3-1 to Golden State, and Curry ensured he wouldn’t have to pull off something that improbable by his ridiculous performance in Game 4. He can’t keep doing that, though, and the rest of the team needs to step up the rest of the way.
