Tyler Herro has been a key player for the Miami Heat this year, as he was the 2nd scoring option behind superstar Jimmy Butler during this season. While he struggled at times during the playoffs, he definitely had a very productive regular season. During the regular season, Tyler Herro put up 20.7 PPG, 5.0 RPG, and 4.0 APG, while shooting 39.9% from beyond the arc.
As a result of his season coming off the bench, Tyler Herro ended up winning the Sixth Man of the Year award. While he thrived in the sixth man role this year, Tyler Herro has recently admitted that starting next season is a priority for him, stating that he thinks he’s “earned it”:

There is no doubt that Tyler Herro is good enough to be a starting shooting guard in the league, whether it is on the Miami Heat or otherwise. Tyler Herro has previously claimed that he should be mentioned in “the same conversation” as superstars like Luka Doncic, Trae Young, and Ja Morant. Perhaps a starting role and increased opportunity will allow him to do that:
“I feel like I’m in the same conversation as those guys, the young guys coming up in the league who can be All-Stars, superstars one day,” Herro said, as quoted by Heat Nation. “Luka [Doncic], Trae [Young], Ja [Morant], those guys like that. I feel like my name should be in that category, too.”
While most people would agree that Tyler Herro isn’t quite on that superstar tier just yet, it is quite possible that he will become an All-Star in the future. He is already a fantastic three-level scorer, and he still has room to improve as he’s only 22 currently.
Hopefully, we see Tyler Herro get that starting role that he desires. It would definitely be interesting to see what he can do as a starter, and perhaps we’ll see coach Erik Spoelstra give him the opportunity to prove himself in that role next season.
