Down 2-0 to start the series, the Mavericks were facing a lot of pressure to win their first two home games of the series. Many had already counted them out.

But after fighting and clawing for back-to-back wins in Dallas, the series is tied 2-2, and the Mavs will have a chance to take a lead in the series later this week.

Luka Doncic, who scored 26 points on the night, had this to say after his Game 4 win:

“If we have 1% chance, we’re going to believe. This team is special. This bond is special.”

He also spoke about the resolve and strength the Mavericks showed to keep fighting when down in the series to a superior opponent.

“This team was amazing,” said Doncic. “Everybody that gets to the court leaves everything out there. If we play hard and we get stops, we’re a dangerous team.”

“The Phoenix Suns, we knew they were going to make a run,” Doncic said. “We stayed together, man. They’re a hell of a team, but I think with us staying together, playing physical, it was the key to this game.”

“I think we didn’t play hard enough in the first two games,” he said. “Somebody has got to win four, and we can always believe until the end.”

The Mavericks finished with the 4th best record in the West, but they’re still considered big underdogs against Phoenix. Just a year ago, the Suns made the NBA Finals and were two wins away from taking home the title. They followed it up by going 64-18 in the regular season.

Needless to say, the odds are stacked against Luka and the Mavericks. Yet, somehow, they’ve got a real chance to win the series and move on to the Conference Finals.

We’ll see if they can take Game 5 on Tuesday.
