It seems like NBA records are being broken almost every night in the NBA during these past few seasons. The reason for this could be the increase in the style of pace and play or the lack of defense.

One stat that hasn’t been achieved since February 17, 1994, is a quadruple-double. This feat has only been achieved four times in league history, and the owner of the last quadruple-double is none other than the Admiral, David Robinson.

History Of The Quadruple-Double

Many players achieve a triple-double with ease these days, or so it seems. A triple-double is when a player records 10 or more in three of the major stat categories.

These categories include points, assists, rebounds, steals, and blocks. So, a quadruple-double is when a player records 10 or more in four of these categories.

The all-time list of players achieving a quadruple-double is as follows:

— Nate Thurmond in 1974

— Alvin Robertson in 1986

— Hakeem Olajuwon in 1990

— David Robinson in 1994

There have been a few quadruple-doubles over the past few years… Well, not really. Players like James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and even the great LeBron James have had 10 or more in four categories. The problem is one of those categories was turnovers.

Since a turnover is a negative stat, this isn’t counted in the official stats for achieving a quadruple-double, for obvious reasons.

So, that leaves David Robinson’s performance in 1994 as the last time the NBA witnessed a quadruple-double.

The San Antonio Spurs were taking on the Detroit Pistons in San Antonio on February 17, 1994. The game started like any other game during the mid-90s for the Spurs; David Robinson was dominating.

Robinson, in his prime, was a problem for the league. He was an incredible talent with skills, power, and quickness that’s been rarely seen at the center position.

So, on this night in February 1994, the fans in San Antonio, and the fans watching on their TVs, had no clue what was about to happen.

Robinson played like a man among boys. He was scoring at will with an assortment of moves, from putback slam dunks to mid-range jump shots.

When the Pistons tried to slow his scoring down by throwing double and triple teams his way, Robinson found his teammates open for easy baskets.

Then, on the defensive end, Robinson locked down his opponents, swatting away anything that came near him.

Robinson finished the game scoring 34, grabbing 10 rebounds, dishing out 10 assists, all the while collecting 10 blocked shots.

The most important stat on that night for Robinson was the Spurs’ 115-96 victory. In retrospect, his quadruple-double was more important and will be until another player finally joins the exclusive quadruple-double club.
