The NBA trade deadline is quickly approaching, and teams are planning moves that will make their teams better. While the fans might not exactly be happy with the decisions, the organization is more interested in creating an environment where the team can compete.
The Sacramento Kings have long said fast-rising star De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton are off the table in trade talks, but it looks like that might change, concerning Fox. There is a chance that the Kings will be open to entertaining offers for arguably the fastest player in the league.
In a conversation among ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Tim Bontemps, and Tim MacMahon on the Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective, they discussed potential trade moves and the situation of the franchises.
According to the trio, there is “a lot of smoke” regarding Fox as he has not performed at the level expected. He had an incredible 2020-21 season, and many believed he will take his game to new heights and make a case for All-Star selection. So far, the dynamic backcourt duo of Fox and Haliburton the franchise hoped to build through have been underwhelming.
Nonetheless, Haliburton holds a lot of potential due to his age even though he is not as explosive as Fox. Overall, he reads the game better as he has posted better averages across all major stat lines except in scoring so far this season.
Although Fox has not made the strides many expected, he could still develop into a lethal scorer. But the franchise could be growing impatient, understandably so, after signing him to a $163 million contract extension. He has talked about how much he hates losing, but many could argue that he has not done enough to help the team win.
The Kings have brought in two point guards in the last two drafts to join Fox, which means that they might not entirely be shorthanded if they choose to use him in a trade deal. The 25-year old has a few weeks to turn his game around before the February 10 deadline to guarantee his continued stay in Sacramento.
