The Golden State Warriors look like a contender once again, and there’s no question that they are a good team currently. With that being said, even contenders make midseason trades to improve.

A player that the Golden State Warriors could potentially target in the trade market is Karl-Anthony Towns. Our trade scenario features the Golden State Warriors sending out a trade package headlined by Jordan Poole and James Wiseman to get the All-NBA big man.

Golden State Warriors Receive: Karl-Anthony Towns

Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: Jordan Poole, James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Kevon Looney, 2022 first-round pick (GSW), 2022 second-round pick (TOR)

The Golden State Warriors Create A Superteam

The Golden State Warriors could massively improve their odds of winning the championship by trading for Karl-Anthony Towns while being able to retain Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins. They could roll out a ridiculous starting lineup, while still having some decent veterans such as Otto Porter Jr. and Gary Payton II.

In this trade package, the Warriors would send out 3 young players that need playing time in James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody. Neither of those players is in the rotation currently, and sending them out for a top-tier star could be the move to guarantee another championship for the Warriors. Losing Jordan Poole would hurt, but it could be worth it to get a top-tier center, and Klay Thompson would be able to be the starting shooting guard upon his return. Kevon Looney would be the salary filler contract in this trade.

Karl-Anthony Towns would fit perfectly in the Warriors system, as he is the best stretch 5 in the league. He would also give the team some size, allowing them to play better against the elite big men of the Western Conference like Nikola Jokic and Anthony Davis. On Karl-Anthony Towns’ end, this could be a good opportunity for him to join a winning team and participate in the playoffs, something he’s done only once in his career.

The Minnesota Timberwolves Acquire Some Intriguing Prospects

The Golden State Warriors have a lot of intriguing young players, and if the Minnesota Timberwolves want a good foundation to build on after trading Towns, making a deal with the Warriors could be the move.

Jordan Poole would headline this deal. Currently, the electric shooting guard is putting up 18.2 PPG, 3.2 RPG, and 3.4 APG, and he could be a great backcourt partner for Anthony Edwards in the future. While it seems as though he’d be directly competing with D’Angelo Russell for minutes, perhaps the Timberwolves could end up running a 3-guard lineup or trading Russell in a separate deal to rebuild.

James Wiseman was the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, and he has shown a lot of potential, as he is an athletic center with some shooting ability. He would get the touches he needs to develop on a rebuilding team and would have room for his game to grow. Jonathan Kuminga is an athletic wing who is a solid finisher around the rim and a good perimeter defender. He also could grow into a special player. Moses Moody could become a 3 and D wing. Kevon Looney would be the veteran on the roster. The picks in this case would provide draft compensation to get the deal over the finish line.

Overall, the Minnesota Timberwolves would get a lot of young players who could grow with Anthony Edwards, who already looks like a future superstar. They’d be a problem a few years down the line, and perhaps that could be better than their current situation.
