  • LeBron James will be entering his 21st season in the NBA aged 38
  • Former Laker AC Green wants the team to ensure LeBron James and Anthony Davis stay healthy
  • The Lakers made the Conference Finals this past season

Former Los Angeles Lakers star believes the key to the team’s success in the 2023-24 season is to keep their star duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis healthy.

Speaking on Youtube’s Scoop B Selects with host, Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, the three-time champion believed the front office did a robust job during free agency by fitting the right pieces alongside James and Davis, but their main objective is to ensure that the two remain healthy.

“Got to keep it him and A.D. and other guys healthy,” said Green. “But the nucleus is starting to get right.”

He further added, with more emphasis on James:

“The thing is, now that he’s coming toward the end of a career, his game is not coming toward the end of his productivity,” Green continued. “But at the same time, I’m also happy that you know [general manager] Rob Pelinka is bringing the resources around to help lighten the load a little bit where he doesn’t have to feel he’s got to carry that torch and baton every single game.”

James has been playing at an elite level despite being 38. This past season, he averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists, becoming the league’s all-time leading scorer in the process.

Ahead of the new season, Pelinka stuck to his word and retained a majority of the young core comprising of D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Austin Reaves.

The Lakers further added point guard Gabe Vincent from the Miami Heat, and Cam Reddish to the mix as well to bolster the roster and put perfect pieces alongside James and Davis.

Now, it remains to be seen if James can lead the Lakers to their 18th championship with a roster that’s more than certainly well-equipped.

Can LeBron James And Anthony Davis Deliver A Championship To The Lakers In The 2023-24 Season?

LeBron James and Anthony Davis have the right balance of skills and chemistry and, more importantly, have an astute understanding of each other’s game. And while this automatically makes them favorites to win the title, their injuries have been a major concern.

While James played 55 games last season, Davis played a game more, averaging 25.9 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. Now, with a new contract to boot, Davis has been looked at as the Lakers’ future, and James will be the seasoned veteran who still manages to contribute at a high level.

With the right roster, the Lakers can afford to give their superstars more breathing room, and should they indeed stay healthy, this Lakers team will surely have a repeat run of their 2020 championship.
