Days after announcing a new partnership with SKIMS clothing brand, NBA commissioner Adam Silver confirmed that his faith in the company was not just for show. In a chat with a reporter in New York City, Silver elaborated on the NBA’s new deal with SKIMS and why he ultimately chose this brand over the rest.
“It came about because a guy named Jens Grede connected me to Kim and her partner. And although I’m not going to show you, I’m wearing them right now. I strongly recommend them to everyone.”
That would have been a fine enough review on its own, but Silver didn’t stop there. After being asked about how the underwear will impact player performance, Adam made sure to draw the connection between comfort and performance.
“Oh yeah you know, when guys are more comfortable, it makes them play better. So yes, it’s gonna have a direct impact on the game,” said Silver on the way inside.

What Is SKIMS?
Founded in 2019, SKIMS is a clothing company run by Kim Kardashian and her business partner, Emma Grede. With a heavy focus on body positivity and inclusivity for all, they specialize in sleepwear and loungewear for both men and women. While SKIMS has notoriously high prices, the brand has gained a favorable reputation among consumers for its high-quality products and wide variety of sizes.
Amazingly, SKIMS is worth roughly $4 billion today which is quite an impressive feat given its relatively short lifespan. And while the future remains uncertain for SKIMS, their newfound partnership with the NBA should help ensure its continued success for years to come.
“I am incredibly proud of SKIMS partnership with the NBA, as it is a reflection of SKIMS growing influence on culture,” said Kim Kardashian, Co-Founder and Creative Director of SKIMS. “Together, SKIMS and the NBA will connect people of all backgrounds through fashion, sport, and talent, and I look forward to seeing the partnership thrive.”
Strange Times In The NBA
The deal with SKIMS is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the NBA’s future plans. With over 75 years of rich history, the league is taking new steps to expand its reach around the world. In the next few years, we will see the NBA sign a lucrative new TV deal that will deepen the pockets of players, coaches, and owners across the association. Business agreements like the one with SKIMS will increase fan engagement and revenue across the board.
Of course, all of this is happening as the NBA tries to implement a new in-season tournament to the schedule, which has been getting mixed reviews so far. Needless to say, the NBA is in a state of flux right now as the old era comes to a close in the form of several massive changes. It will be interesting to see how this impacts the overall NBA product, but it’s clear to see that the league is headed in a positive trajectory and the SKIMS deal is just the latest piece of evidence.
