Allen Iverson On If He Lifted Weights: ‘I Would Never Lift Weights And Train And Stuff Like That Because Sh*t Was Too Heavy’

3 Min Read

Allen Iverson is one of the most talented players to ever step foot on an NBA court. He was a very influential player both on and off the hardwoods and even after years of his retirement, people keep remembering him and all the things he said during his active days.

Back in 2016, he made a big revelation about why he didn’t lift weights during his career. The reason was pretty simple, he didn’t like to do that because it was too heavy for him. Yes, you read that right. He was just different and the NBA had to make drastic situations to make Iverson understand he needed to follow rules.

However, neither the league nor his team could convince him to have a workout routine. He was always a skinny player and never really got big muscles because he didn’t like to train.

“I would never lift weights and train and stuff like that because shit was too heavy,” the 2001 NBA MVP said five years ago.

It’s well known that AI wasn’t a fan of practice and he made it clear after the 2001/02 season ended for the Sixers, who were eliminated by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs, one season after they made all the way to the Finals, facing the Los Angeles Lakers of Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.

“We sitting in here — I’m supposed to be the franchise player, and we in here talking about practice. I mean, listen: We talking about practice. Not a game. Not a game. Not a game. We talking about practice. Not a game. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it’s my last. Not the game. We talking about practice, man.”

In the end, this man had a terrific career and even though he never won an NBA title, he will go down as one of the best players in NBA history. Iverson was a misunderstood star that did a lot for the game, who marked an era in the NBA even if he had his flaws.
