The Los Angeles Lakers’ injury problems continued on Friday night when star big man Anthony Davis left the game with an apparent left knee injury during the team’s 110-92 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Davis underwent an MRI on the knee and it revealed an MCL sprain, the team announced. Davis will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

The Lakers have been flirting with inconsistency all season long, so losing AD is just another setback in what has been a rough season so far.

Still, the star big man is just grateful that things didn’t turn out worse.

“I mean, mentally, I’m fine. I’m in good spirits, just being around the team,” Davis said, per Dave McMenamin. “Obviously avoided a major injury, which has kind of got my spirits back up because I just didn’t know.”

Davis is an important player, and he makes a high impact on both ends of the floor when he’s at the top of his game

During L.A.’s title run in 2020, he proved how dominant he could be with averages of 26.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game on 50% shooting.

Sadly, Davis has been unable to match that level of play since. Over the past few seasons, he hasn’t been himself and the Lakers have struggled to play up to expectations.

Already, Davis is following that concerning trend this season as well.

Perhaps with some more time to get right, the L.A. superstar can lead the Lakers through another successful playoff run — but first, he’ll have to get healthy and be on the floor.
