Anthony Edwards made sure to keep the receipts in his latest Adidas commercial, as he responded to criticisms levied at him earlier in his career. The critics included some famous names, like Carmelo Anthony and legendary rapper Cam’ron, along with several fan critiques, to which Ant just said that he was better than who everyone thought he was.

Friend: “Yo, Ant, Carmelo said ‘Are you committed to really going out there and being the face of the league? Because they’re throwing that term around too loosely’… Cam’ron said ‘To me, he’s an All-Star, but not a superstar yet’.

Edwards: “Haha. F*ck, buddy. What else they say, Slick?”

Friend: “’The most overrated athlete’. Oh, this is a good one. ‘Does he really love the game?’.”

Edwards: “He’s tripping.”

Friend: “’He doesn’t look like he’s even in good enough shape.’”

Edwards: “He’s just wrong.”

Friend: “’I’m noticing he complains a bit… what happened to the next American prodigy?’ I ain’t trying to rub it in, but they’re saying this is the furthest y’all going to get.”

Edwards: “This only the beginning. ‘Cause I’m not who they think I am. I’m better. Believe that.”

Anthony Edwards showed that he is the next NBA superstar during this playoff run, as he led the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in 20 years. While he and the Timberwolves couldn’t overcome the Mavericks, he showed why his name should be in consideration for the next face of the NBA.

The Timberwolves will have to build their team around Edwards over the next few seasons, as he could help bring a championship to their franchise for the first time in history.

Anthony Edwards Is Up Next

Anthony Edwards had an absolutely stellar playoff run, averaging 27.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 6.5 assists over 16 games during these playoffs. He was crucial in them reaching the Western Conference Finals and showed that he is the leader of the franchise.

But Edwards did show the gaps in his game in the conference finals against the Mavericks. While his numbers were strong, averaging 24.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 7.8 assists, he shot quite poorly from the field, making just 43% of his shots. For Edwards, the occasion was just too big, and he was just too inexperienced.

After getting eliminated, Anthony Edwards spoke about what went wrong for him and the Timberwolves against the Mavericks. He noted that he and the team never properly clicked in the series as they had against the Nuggets and the Suns, and that worked to their detriment.

“We never clicked all together as a team in this series. Not even one game. I think that was the main thing. The last two series, we were all clicking at one time making shots and stuff. We weren’t clicking at one time here.”

The Timberwolves will now look to retool their roster going forward. With some big contracts on the team, they will have to make some tough roster decisions if they want to avoid being in the luxury tax. But regardless of what decisions they make, one thing is for sure – Anthony Edwards is one of the next superstars in the NBA.
