• Austin Reaves discussed his relationship with LeBron James after making his Team USA debut

• He spoke positively about James before saying he wishes they can win a title together this season

• James will be entering his 21st season in the NBA while Reaves will be entering his third year

Austin Reaves improbable rise since entering the NBA as an undrafted rookie has been remarkable. After seeing 60 names called ahead of him in the 2021 NBA Draft, Reaves has outpaced most of them by making his Team USA debut tonight in an impressive showing.

Reaves’ quick nine-point cameo received praise from LeBron James on Twitter. Reaves reacted to the compliment while saying he wants to win a title alongside LeBron and the Lakers this season.

“That’s my guy. I’ve learned a lot from him in the past two years. It feels good when he kind of validates that you can actually play. It’s been a special two years, and hopefully, we can go win a championship this year.”

Reaves averaged 16.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in the playoffs and looked like the bonafide third offensive option being LeBron and AD in their Conference Finals sweep to the Nuggets.

Can The Lakers Push For A Title?

The Lakers will be optimistic heading into next season. They have made the right roster moves and only need to add another backup center to cover the holes in a position that often sees Anthony Davis unavailable due to injury. The success of the Lakers depends primarily on health.

Both Davis and LeBron are guaranteed to miss at least 15-20 games every season. That is where players like Reaves need to step up. For the first time in the LeBron-AD era, the Lakers have ample depth around their stars to be impactful when injuries rock the boat.

They are deep and versatile in a very competitive Western Conference. Hopefully, they can make another run at the title this season as James sustaining his level of play at a nearly 30-point average is not sustainable.
