• LeBron James approved of Austin Reaves’ strong debut performance for Team USA

• Reaves scored 9 quick points off the bench in their win over Puerto Rico

• Reaves’ versatility could make him a powerful bench-scoring option at the World Cup

Team USA got off to a hot start in their preparation for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, dominating Puerto Rico in a 117-74 win in their opening friendly game.

Austin Reaves put in a shift off the bench, starting the game hot and scoring nine quick points upon getting an opportunity. LeBron James was watching closely, showing love for his Lakers teammate’s performance.

“A-R you so COLD man!!!”

Reaves trailed off after a hot 4-5 start to the game, ending the game with the nine points that he scored upon subbing in.

It’ll be tough for Reaves to be a starter or a primary scoring option on this stacked Team USA roster but he will be relied upon to give them buckets off the bench throughout the tournament.

Austin Reaves Preparing For A Breakout Year

Austin Reaves is primed and ready to take another leap in the 2023-24 season and establish himself as one of the top guards in the league. He’s yet to prove himself as an All-Star caliber star, but he’ll hope that opportunities at showing his skill will be increased after how he ended last season.

Reaves averaged 21.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in the Lakers’ loss to the Denver Nuggets, proving he can shoulder a greater offensive load if trusted. The experience with Team USA will be invaluable for the 6’5″ guard.

Hopefully, he can come to training camp in September ready to become the third star the Lakers haven’t had next to LeBron and Anthony Davis
