Ben Simmons is reportedly ready to make his debut in the 2021/22 NBA season after being inactive for nearly a year. It’s been a wild time for Simmons, who collapsed against the Atlanta Hawks last season in the second round of the playoff before deciding he wouldn’t play again for the Philadelphia 76ers.

He was traded to the Nets in March but hasn’t made his debut yet. That day looks close right now, as reports suggest Simmons could be ready to take the court next Monday. The Nets trail the Boston Celtics 2-0 right now and could be 3-0 if they don’t win Game 3 at home.

A win tomorrow would put them in a good position ahead of Simmons’ return, but that remains a big if right now. Meanwhile, the Australian player is getting ready for his comeback and has already explained what he will try to do with the Nets. Talking with reporters, Simmons opened up on his role with the team, pretty much saying he’s ready to be the floor general.

“We’ll find out. It’s a good challenge, but I’m looking forward to playing with these guys. I think for me, my IQ is so high to play with guys like [Kyrie Irving], Seth [Curry], [Durant]… I know how they want to play. For me, it’s getting them in the spots and being the floor general, so it’s exciting. I’m looking forward to it.”

Simmons is ready for the challenge and he knows what the team expects from him, too. The Nets could really use his playmaking abilities and defense, especially if they want to get past the dangerous Boston Celtics. After almost a year being inactive, it’ll be interesting to see what version of Simmons the Nets will get, but right now, it looks like they’re confident about the player’s contribution to the squad.
