Luka Doncic is one of the top superstars in the NBA right now, and there’s no doubt that he has been playing at a high level for the Dallas Mavericks. He has been the offensive engine for the team, and Luka Doncic is currently averaging 34.3 PPG, 9.0 RPG, and 8.8 APG.
The Dallas Mavericks have been a solid team during Luka Doncic’s tenure, but they have not had a true star-level player next to Luka Doncic since they moved on from Kristaps Porzingis. There have been some who have suggested Doncic could end up leaving the team in the future. Bill Simmons recently predicted that Luka Doncic could end up on the Miami Heat when his contract expires with the Mavericks.
“5yrs from now what team is Luka on? I think it’s going to be really hard for Dallas to put a good enough team around him. I think they’re on the clock. How many years will he be happy? If he did switch teams for some reason I feel like it’s Miami”- @BillSimmons on The Lowe Post pic.twitter.com/u7Jzu4Zsun

“5 years from now what team is Luka Doncic on? I think it’s going to be really hard for them to put a good enough team around him. We know the law of the NBA. At some point the guy just starts looking around. I think they’re on the clock… The Brunson game was a really dangerous game to play with this… the league is just getting better and better… How many years will he be happy… If he did switch teams for some reason I feel like it’s Miami”
Luka Doncic has shown no signs that he’s gearing up to leave the Dallas Mavericks thus far, this could certainly be a situation to monitor. The Miami Heat are known to be an elite free agency destination, and it is easy to see the reasons Luka Doncic would join them. They are known to have an elite front office and are a consistently competitive team. In terms of the near future though, it is likely that Luka Doncic remains a member of the Dallas Mavericks.
The Dallas Mavericks Are Active On The Trade Market
To their credit, the Dallas Mavericks recognize the need to make moves to improve the roster around Luka Doncic. They have been active on the trade market, most notably being linked with Detroit Pistons’ sharpshooter Bojan Bogdanovic.
The Dallas Mavericks are on the list, but one source said the Pistons would demand the Mavericks’ 2027 first-round pick (probably with a player like Davis Bertans, whose contract isn’t pretty).
It remains to be seen if the Dallas Mavericks do end up landing Bojan Bogdanovic in the future. He would certainly be a good fit on the team due to his offensive skill set and spacing, and Bogdanovic is currently averaging 21.2 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 2.8 APG.
Hopefully, we see the Dallas Mavericks find a way to improve, whether it is through making a trade or otherwise. It is imperative for them to put a championship-caliber team around Luka Doncic and we’ll see what happens in the future.
