Bradley Beal is a part of the Phoenix Suns after being moved for Chris Paul and Landry Shamet, coupled with a first-round pick swap and second-round picks.

Shams Charania gave insight on the weekend of trade offers that Beal and the Wizards had to sift through, revealing that the Suns were picked over offers from the Bucks, Kings, and Heat.

“Ultimately, Beal picked the Suns over multiple other trade scenarios, including Miami, Milwaukee, and Sacramento, sources said. The Wizards entered serious negotiations with the Suns and Heat on Saturday, as The Athletic reported, and that’s when the Bucks re-entered the picture. Milwaukee officials spoke with Beal on Saturday to pitch him on the Bucks, league sources said.”

The Heat are said to have not pursued this aggressively, keeping their eyes out for bigger targets if they become available. The Kings and Bucks were interesting options, especially Milwaukee, given they would have had to give up either Jrue Holiday or Khris Middleton for the salaries to match.

Did Bradley Beal Make The Right Choice?

With the no-trade clause that Beal has on his contract, he essentially had full control over his future. He was the one deciding from all the offers and picked Phoenix, presumable because of the existing stars on the roster. If the Bucks gave up Holiday or Middleton, Beal wouldn’t necessarily move the needle and make them contenders. The same goes for the Kings, who have a strong roster but not a lot of top-end talent.

Beal picking Kevin Durant and Devin Booker makes perfect sense, as neither player was going to be moved to accommodate him. They even kept Deandre Ayton, meaning they can either flip Ayton to fill out their roster or keep an incredible big four on the same roster despite the new CBA rules being motivated to avoid exactly this kind of roster construction.

Beal, Ayton, KD, and Booker will combine to make $162.7 million next season, with the salary cap expected to be around $140 million.
