• Brandon Ingram is determined to help Team USA win the Gold medal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup

• Ingram has struggled for Team USA in their opening games

• He started the tournament as a starter but has since lost his spot to Josh Hart

Brandon Ingram was expected to be one of the leaders of Team USA at the FIBA World Cup. He is one of the most experienced players on the squad and was expected to be a guaranteed starter before losing his spot to Josh Hart. He openly discussed his role with Team USA and expressed a desire to help in any way possible to win the Gold.

“I wanna clear that up. As a good player, you always want to go out there and show who you are and do it in a winning way… I always want to be kind of professional about what I’m doing. I want to be a winner.”

That was a great response from Ingram. His personal struggles are not indicative of the team’s success. He needs to do his role in ensuring the team is operating well instead of holding their success up because he wants to be a starter.

Ingram is averaging just 4.7 points through the first three games of the tournament. He has lost his starting spot to Josh Hart, but it seems he’s accepted that change for the good of the team.

Brandon Ingram Hoping To Have A Big Season

Not everyone has a play style that translates well to the FIBA rules. Ingram could just be struggling with that, as we have seen how legitimate his offensive capabilities are in the NBA.

Ingram averaged 24.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists in 45 games last season. He’s been the star of the Pelicans for a couple of seasons, with Zion Williamson being absent. When both of them are healthy, the Pels are one of the best teams in the NBA. Unfortunately, both players are injury-prone, though Ingram is more available than Zion.

His scoring arsenal is among the most diverse for a player of his size. There just is a lack of consistency in his performances, as he tends to miss a lot of games or just have dud offensive nights.

That reputation can be changed next season, but if the Pelicans miss the playoffs again, the team may have to think whether Ingram will give them what they need to become a winning franchise.
