  • Trade for Chris Paul did not increase title window for Warriors, says Windy
  • Dubs have ‘tremendous respect’ for Paul
  • CP3 does not play complimentary style for the Warriors

Internally, the Golden State Warriors are feeling pretty good about their big move this summer. By trading Jordan Poole for Chris Paul, they successfully swapped one disgruntled young player for an older, established veteran.

But in the eyes of NBA insider Brian Windhorst, he’s still not sold that the move will substantially help Golden State. Speaking on NBA Today, he explained why he’s uncertain of CP3’s impact:

“I’m not sure he extends their title window,” said Windy. “They obviously have enormous respect for Chris Paul, that goes without saying even though he said it. The issue is, the way Chris Paul plays is not the way the Warriors play… This deal was made largely as a salary dump… Making an assumption that it’s a huge addition – I’m not there yet.”

There is no denying CP3’s status as one of the best point guards ever, but he’s not nearly the same player he used to be. With 18 seasons under this belt now, he’s older, slower, and much less impactful overall than he was in his prime or even just a few years ago with the Suns.

So to trade a guy like Jordan Poole for him certainly draws a lot of questions about how badly they wanted a change.

Warriors GM Says He Made The Right Choice

No matter how you feel about Poole, the Dubs aren’t going to back down from their stance. Looking back, they feel nothing but confidence in their decision, and GM Mike Dunleavy explains why he believes it had to get done.

“Honestly, in a lot of ways, it was an easy move because I felt it would make our team better, and it gave us a decent amount of flexibility going forward, so to me it wasn’t that tough,” Dunleavy told Monte Poole and Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area.

It remains to be seen how much better (or worse) the Warriors have become after this summer, but they still have Steph, Klay, and Draymond, so only a fool would count them out completely.
