Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai has been a controversial figure around the NBA for a while now. The team had a couple of seasons full of drama, especially with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the roster.

All this time leading the Nets left him big teaching, and the billionaire owner recently revealed what he’s learned about people, especially NBA players. While discussing artificial intelligence (AI) at the BEYOND Expo 2023 technology conference in Macao, Tsai made a curious remark.

“Believe me, I manage a basketball team, and the players are very difficult to manage,” said Tsai. “If you’re in Hollywood, it’s very, very difficult to manage people.”

Of course, this is something that applies to a lot of situations, but he talked about the ones he’s familiar with. The Brooklyn Nets entered a spiral of crazy situations in 2019 when they landed two superstars that never delivered a championship.

Kyrie Irving was the one involved in more controversies, even getting suspended by the league and the team at some point for his views on political matters or his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Nets started a new era after the 2023 trade deadline, and they reached the playoffs without their two stars, although the Philadelphia 76ers easily took them down in the first round of the postseason.

Joe Tsai Had A Difficult Relationship With Kevin Durant And Kyrie Irving

Tsai has always tried to be polite when talking about his team, but the Alibaba executive vice chairman isn’t shy when he reaches his limit. His relationship with Kyrie Irving reportedly broke down in October after Irving shared a link to an anti-Semite movie that cost him a big suspension.

After Kyrie and Kevin Durant left the team to go to the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns, respectively, he also took a jab at them for not loving the Nets. Tsai is a controversial figure in the NBA world, and that won’t change anytime soon.
