It’s been almost four months since Kobe Bryant’s tragic helicopter accident. On January 26th’s foggy morning, the Black Mamba and seven passengers lost their lives after a fatal crash in Calabasas, California.
There have been endless controversies ever since regarding what may have or may have not caused such a tragic ending to their lives, but most signs pointed towards human error combined with terrible weather conditions.
So, Kobe’s widow Vanessa decided to file a lawsuit against the defunct Ara Zobayan and the helicopter company claiming that it was the pilot’s negligence that caused the accident, demanding financial compensation for them and all the affected families that are still grieving the loss of their beloved ones.
However, Zobayan’s brother Berge Zobayan recently told the Los Angeles Times that they shouldn’t be entitled to any kind of retribution, as Kobe and the rest of the passengers were well aware of the risks that came with flying with such dubious conditions:
“Any injuries or damages to plaintiffs and/or their decedent were directly caused in full or in part by the negligence or fault of plaintiffs and/or their decedent, including their knowledge and voluntary encounter with the risks involved, and that this negligence was a substantial factor in causing their purported damages, for which this answering defendant bears no responsibility,” the report claimed.
Needless to say, the Bryant family isn’t trying to just rip off any company and make a profit out of Kobe’s passing. They’re one of the wealthiest families in professional sports and they wouldn’t be into it just out of greed.
Kobe’s tragic death shocked the entire world and the sports community. He was one of the most influential people of the century, a role model on and off the court, with flaws and strengths, like everybody else, and he would never want to hurt Zobayan’s reputation just for a couple of million dollars.
