Carmelo Anthony recently shared his thoughts on Charles Barkley’s surprising decision to turn down a $100 million offer to stay with TNT rather than join a new network as the NBA’s media rights contract with TNT expires. During his podcast, ‘7PM in Brooklyn’, Anthony discussed Barkley’s choice, offering both criticism and praise.

“Didn’t he sh*t on Jalen Brunson for leaving money on the table with the Knicks? N***** ain’t making a $100 million in endorsements. F**k outta here.”

He began by pointing out the irony of Barkley’s decision, recalling how Barkley had previously criticized NBA players like Jalen Brunson for leaving money on the table during contract negotiations. This remark highlights Barkley’s apparent inconsistency, as the Hall of Famer had been vocal about players maximizing their earnings.

However, Anthony did not stop at criticism. He also expressed admiration for Barkley’s loyalty and dedication to TNT, acknowledging the deeper motivations behind Barkley’s decision.

“I f**k with it and it’s gonna be something different coming from me. With Barkley, it comes down to ‘This is home, I don’t want to leave this. We done built this. I built my whole life off this s**t.'”

“The money is enticing because they gotta throw the money out there and rightfully so, he deserves the numbers that’s out there but you can’t leave that. That’s me speaking from a loyalty situation.”

“That’s real shit what he did because I know the numbers that are being thrown at Barkley. I know the conversation that’s being had about Barkley in that world. Those Stephen A. numbers are official. All those numbers are real…It’s loyalty.”

He emphasized that Barkley’s choice was rooted in loyalty and a sense of responsibility to the team and the legacy they had created together at TNT. Anthony further explained that Barkley’s decision to stay was not merely about the money but about preserving the relationships and the environment he had been a part of for so long.

Despite the staggering sum Charles Barkley declined, Anthony respected his decision and acknowledged that it was something he might not have been able to do himself. While Anthony has always been a player who prioritized maximizing his earnings, he appreciated Barkley’s choice to prioritize loyalty over a lucrative payday.

In the end, Anthony’s remarks reflect the complexity of decisions that professional athletes and sports figures face, especially when balancing financial incentives with personal values and loyalty.

Barkley’s decision to turn down $100 million to stay with TNT may seem surprising to some, but as Carmelo Anthony highlighted, it was a choice deeply rooted in a sense of loyalty and commitment to the people and the legacy he helped build. This move by Barkley is a testament to the bonds formed over years of working together and the significance of staying true to what one values most.
