Jordan Poole was looked at as a star in the making following his impressive displays last season but his stock has fallen drastically in these playoffs.
He is averaging just 10.6 PPG, 2.3 RPG, and 3.5 APG while shooting 34.4% from the field and 26.7% from beyond the arc. While some wonder what caused this slump, Charles Barkley had an explanation as he says Poole reminds him of JR Smith.
“He reminds me of JR Smith,” Barkley said. “They say he was streaky, the reason he was streaky, he would make those tough, bad shots. Two weeks later he’d hit a bunch. Jordan Poole is the exact same way.”

It is an interesting comparison and perhaps you do see some similarities between them. If you take as many bad shots as these two did, you are bound to have some stretches where they just won’t go in, unless you are Stephen Curry, where no shot is really a bad one.
The Warriors would certainly be hoping Poole goes on to become a lot better than JR was. Smith did have some pretty good years with the Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks, averaging 18.1 PPG off the bench in 2012-13, but there was never a time when he was seen as a star in the league. Golden State signed Poole to that massive extension last year in the hope that he would become a star and it’s safe to say things haven’t gone to plan so far.
Colin Cowherd Thinks Jordan Poole Would Shine In A Bigger Role
While Poole’s stock continues to slide, Colin Cowherd believes the issue isn’t the young guard, but the situation he is in. Cowherd thinks Poole needs to be the main man on a team and that’s not happening with Curry still being around. He is of the opinion that Poole can average 25 PPG for 90% of the teams in the league in a bigger role.
While 90% might be a stretch, Poole would certainly be putting up better numbers if he wasn’t playing third fiddle to Curry and Klay Thompson. He also seems to be getting a bit frustrated with his role on the Warriors and his situation certainly looks to be one to keep an eye on.
